The Swamp Ghost

Click For EnlargementI created TheSwampGhost.com to present the most accurate news and information about this bomber. For the past decade, I have been fascinated by World War II Pacific. My interest led to the creation of PacificWrecks.com and PacificGhosts.com. I first saw photographs of B-17E 41-2446 in the book by Charles Darby's Pacific Aircraft Wrecks.

I was captivated, and strived to learn more about it. When I learned of its salvage in May 2006, I was surprised. Its salvage marks a turning point in the study of Pacific Wrecks. Today. there is no longer a relic like 'Swamp Ghost' left on land, with an equal history or intact condition.

In 2003, I visited the Swamp Ghost via helicopter. The trip was an amazing experience, the bomber was even more impressive than I had imagined: a time capsule left in situ from 1942. I created The Swamp Ghost DVD to tell the story of the bomber and its crew. In 2005, I returned to walk to the bomber, retracing the path of the crew to pay tribute to their escape.
