Papua New Guinea Screening
On August
27, 2005 Pacific Ghost hosted
a screening and reception at the Airways Hotel, a perfect
location for many historical reasons. The hotel overlooks
Jacksons (7-Mile) Aerodrome, the designated landing strip
for the February 23, 1942 mission's B-17s landed low on fuel.
Only the 'The
Swamp Ghost' failed to land, instead force landing in a distant
swamp. Port Moresby was also the location the crew
reached arrived after their escape from
the swamp. The reception was held inside the
Balus Bar, an ex-WWII
C-47 painted in Air Niugini markings. Many special guests attended, including:
a government minister, national museum Staff, tourism &
promotion, RSL representatives, the business community,
and local residents.
